When I first learned that I was pregnant, I was overjoyed. About two seconds later, another feeling set in: pure terror. What do I know about being a mom, let alone a good mom? Immediatly I started reading everything I could get my hands on in hopes of having a clue before my little one came into this world. But even after he did, I didn’t suddenly become an expert on the subject of mothering as many mothers use to describe other mothers, instead I found I really knew less then I thought I did. Even the simpilist task suddenly became a life changing event: can you use bleach on baby clothes or will my child be physically scarred for life, and did I really want to risk it? Formula or breast milk? Stay-at crappy-appartment-in-bad-neighborhood or Back-to-work nice-house-in-the-burbs? Child Care? Food? Money? Time? Ugh!
So from one terrified mom to another, here are my confessions:
